Eithel Sirion, the springs of Sirion, were in the eastern slopes of these Mountains, while Teiglin and Malduin rose from the southern part of the range

These Mountains of Shadow to the north of Beleriand are not to be confused with the Mountains of Shadow (or Ephel Dúath) that bordered Mordor far to the south

The Ered Wethrin, so named because their towering peaks shut out the sun from the lands of Mithrim and Dor-lómin that lay in Hithlum to the north.
