Elder Days

The ancient days of Middle-earth

Encyclopedia of Arda Timeline
Years of the Trees First Age Second Age Third Age Fourth Age and Beyond

Strictly, the time before the War of Wrath (that is, the days before the end of the First Age). The term is sometimes expanded to include the Second and Third Ages.

The use of the word 'Elder' is apparently meant to evoke the notion of ancient ancestors, too, as for example in archaic English eldern dawes, meaning 'days of our forefathers'.
