NotesRunning westward from the course of Eridanus, Fornax is a generally faint constellation (its brightest star, Dalim, is only fourth magnitude). It contains several prominent galaxies, including a dwarf elliptical galaxy, the Fornax Dwarf Galaxy, that is a small companion galaxy to the Milky Way.

The constellation of the Furnace lies on the banks of the River Eridanus; though it contains few bright stars visible to the naked eye, it is also home to a rich field of galaxies.
