The supergiant y Carinae is the brightest member of an extensive open cluster in eastern Carina. The wide cluster is designated Collinder 240, within and around which are an array of lesser clusters. These include examples such as Collinder 239 (NGC 3572 to the direct west of y Carinae) and Trumpler 18 to the south. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
