The main body of Collinder 110 is estimated to lie more than seven thousand light years from the Sun, but this region of the sky also includes a less distant 'subcluster'. The southerneastern part of the main cluster is designated 'Collinder 110A', and represents a small cluster about 1,500 light years away (that is, about a fifth of the distance to the main Collinder 110 cluster).
