The blue star to the northeast of Theta1 Crucis is Theta2 Crucis, a much more distant but also much more luminous subgiant star. Falling within the band of the Milky Way, these two stars have a rich starfield as their backdrop, with the particularly dense region to the northwest being the open cluster Collinder 251.
