Either of two points on the Celestial Sphere representing the ends of an imaginary line
extended onto the Sphere through the Earth's own
geographical poles. The Northern Celestial Pole is presently in
Ursa Minor, near the bright
star Polaris, while the
Southern Celestial Pole currently occupies the
constellation Octans.
