Gamwich

A village of the Shire

A village in the Shire, from which the earliest members of the Gamgee family came.

III 2760 (or 1160 by the Shire-reckoning) was the date of the birth of Hamfast, the earliest known ancestor of the Gamgees. He was generally known as 'Hamfast of Gamwich', implying that Gamwich must have been in existence by this point in history.
