NotesThis small lunar sea lies near the centre of the visible face of the Moon, between two much larger maria, Mare Serenitatis to the northeast and Mare Imbrium to the northwest. Southward from Mare Vaporum, a channel of low-lying land runs to another small sea known as Sinus Medii, the Moon's Central Bay.

A small circular mare near the centre of the Moon's visible face. Its northern edges are fringed by mountains, most notable the Apennine range to the northwest, which climb gradually from the floor of the Sea of Vapours to a height of 5,000m or more before falling steeply into the Mare Imbrium. To the northeast is the less dramatic Haemus range, which separates the Sea of Vapours from the much larger Sea of Serenity. The Mare Vaporum contains only one significant crater: Manilius at its eastern end is relatively small at some 39km in diameter, but nonetheless deep and prominent.
