A blue main sequence star some 627 light years from the Solar System. To an observer on Earth, it lies in the heart of the Milky Way, close to Capella, the brightest star of its home constellation of Auriga. In fact, Rho Aurigae is more than twice as luminous as Capella, but being six hundred light years farther away makes it appear faint by comparison.
