A near neighbour of the Sun at a distance of just sixteen light years, Gliese 682 is nonetheless an extremely faint red dwarf star, barely detectable against the Milky Way as it runs through southern Scorpius, and far too faint to be seen with the naked eye. The blue and orange markers in this image illustrate the star's proper motion against the far more distant stars beyond. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
