BWM 8 is an northern outlier of the group of stars catalogued as M73 or NGC 6994, of which the main body is made up from the four close stars in the south of this image. Originally catalogued as an open cluster, this group is now generally seen as an asterism made up from unrelated stars on a nearly direct line of sight from Earth.
