NotesBF Orionis is a young star in the early stages of formation, and is still contracting out of the material of the surrounding Orion Nebula. It has a dense protoplanetary disc, which contains a massive planet, or possibly a brown dwarf. The star's magnitude drops and then recovers periodically as this large body eclipses its light, as seen from Earth.
