The bright star slightly to the south of centre in this image is the supergiant Mu Normae, which appears to be a member of the Collinder 306 cluster (or, at least, lies very close to it in space). This immense star shines more than 300,000 times more brightly than the Sun, and is more luminous than all the other stars of the cluster combined. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
