Lindórinand

Vale of the Land of the Singers

Map of Lindórinand

An ancient name for the land that would later be called Lórien. In its earliest days, at the time of the Great Journey, many of the Elves of the Teleri turned aside from that march and settled instead in the woods by the river Celebrant. At that time there were no golden mallorn trees growing in this region. Many of this forest realm's later names would come from the golden colour of those trees, but they were brought much later by Galadriel. So, at this early point in its history the newly settled Teleri gave their land a name from their own kind. They called themselves Lindar, 'the Singers', and so their new forest home became known as Lindórinand, 'Vale of the Land of the Singers'.
