Grimbold of Westfold

A valiant captain of the Rohirrim

Encyclopedia of Arda Timeline

A Rider of the Rohirrim who fought at both of the Battles of the Fords of Isen. He rode to Minas Tirith, and was slain in the Battle of the Pelennor.

In notes on the origins of the name of Grimbold's home town of Grimslade, Tolkien suggests that it derives in part from the personal name Grim. As such, it's reasonable to assume that Grimbold was a descendant of that historical individual, and that his own name derived from that of his ancestor.
