Rho Scorpii is a multiple system with two main component stars designated Rho Scorpii A and Rho Scorpii B, and Rho Scorpii A is itself a spectroscopic binary. The 'A' component therefore has two subcomponent stars, designated 'Aa' and 'Ab'. It is to Rho Scorpii Aa that the proper name Iklil is formally applied.
