Botein is a giantstar at a late stage of its evolution; having consumed its reserves of hydrogen, the fusion in its core is now driven by helium. The star has swelled to a diameter more than ten times that of the Sun. Botein appears to be a variable star, though the processes driving its variability are not currently understood in detail.
