NotesThis elliptical galaxy forms part of its own small galaxy group, the NGC 4697 Group. The group contains several dwarf galaxies, but the only other significant member is NGC 4731, a barred spiral that lies to the southeast of C52. This small group forms an offshoot of the immense Virgo Cluster, the main body of which lies to the north.
