Gorbulas Brandybuck

Son of Orgulas Brandybuck

A member of the Brandybuck family who belonged to the same generation as Master Rorimac, and Primula the mother of Frodo Baggins. Gorbulas was himself descended from the Masters of Buckland: his grandfather had been Marmadoc the Masterful, with Gorbulas' father, Orgulas, being the youngest of Marmadoc's four children. Gorbulas had a son of his own, Marmadas, and three grandchildren.

Notes

1

Following the pattern of typical Brandybuck surnames, 'Gorbulas' would be derived from Old Welsh, though its intended meaning - if indeed it has one - is unclear. The Gor- element is perhaps from guar or guor, 'over, above', though this is far from certain. Perhaps the name is designed to simply show a similar phonetic pattern to that of Gorbulas' father Orgulas.
