Battle of Bywater

The last battle of the War of the Ring

(1) A hundred of Sharkey's ruffians march from Waymeet up the Bywater Road to quell rebellious Shire-hobbits.
(2) A furlong up the road they encounter a barricade, and are trapped when the Hobbits raise a second barricade behind them by rolling hidden waggons across the road.
(3) A fifth of the force of ruffians break out through the southern barrier and flee towards Woody End, to be hunted down by the Tooks.
(4) In the fierce main battle, Merry Brandybuck slays the leader of the Men, and many others fall on both sides before the Hobbits emerge victorious.

The confrontation that took place between the Shire-hobbits and Sharkey's invading ruffians. Under the leadership of Peregrin Took, Meriadoc Brandybuck and Tolman Cotton, the Hobbits succeeded in trapping Sharkey's Men between the high banks of the Bywater Road, and managed to defeat them.
