The Tower

A name for the White Tower of Minas Tirith

"The Tower trembles; to the tombs of kings
doom approaches.
"
From the prophecy of Malbeth
The Return of the King V 2
The Passing of the Grey Company

A name for the White Tower of Minas Tirith, built on the highest tier of the city. It was originally constructed in III 1900 by King Calimehtar, at a time when Minas Tirith was still known by its old name of Minas Anor. Rebuilt long afterwards (in III 2698) by Steward Ecthelion I, the Tower stood above the High Court of the city and held the palantír known as the Anor-stone. It was protected by its own dedicated company of guards - the Guard of the Tower - who were considered among the most honoured of the soldiers of Gondor.
