White House of Erendis

The sanctuary of Erendis and Ancalimë

Map of the White House of Erendis

A house that stood in the Emerië region of the Mittalmar of Númenor. It was built for Erendis as a gift by Tar-Meneldur, to mark her betrothal to his son Aldarion. Aldarion spent many years away from Númenor in his ships, and the White House became a sanctuary for his wife Erendis, and their daughter, who would become Queen Tar-Ancalimë.

Notes

1

Erendis became betrothed to Aldarion in II 858, and to mark that occasion Aldarion's father Tar-Meneldur granted her lands in Emerië. In the description of this gift (in Unfinished Tales Part Two, II, Aldarion and Erendis, we're told that '...there he had built for her a white house'). This is slightly ambiguous; it might be taken to mean that he had already built the house before presenting the land, or that he built the house after the betrothal. Whatever the precise order of events, the house was clearly built within a few years of II 858.
