Rudibert Bolger

A great uncle of Frodo Baggins

The second son of Adalgar Bolger, Rudibert married Amethyst Hornblower. They had one son, Adalbert, who married Gerda Boffin and continued the family line. Rudibert was only indirectly related to any of the more famous Hobbits of the late Third Age, and his only remotely close connection was to Frodo Baggins: Rudibert's younger sister Ruby was one of Frodo's grandmothers, making Rudibert Frodo's great uncle.

Notes

1

The name Rudibert is Germanic, from an original form Hrodebert that derived in turn from hrod 'fame' and beraht, 'bright'. The Germanic name was also adopted by the Normans, who transformed it into the more common and familiar form Robert.
