Mosco Burrows

Eldest son of Milo Burrows

The eldest of the four children of Milo Burrows and Peony Baggins, Mosco was related to both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, but only in the most distant manner. He was present at Bilbo's famous Farewell Party at the age of just fourteen. At the time of the War of the Ring, he would have nearly come of age, but there is no record to show whether he played a part in the Shire's troubles at that time.

Notes

1

Despite the similarity, the name of this Hobbit cannot have any connection with the city-name Moscow. That city would not be founded for thousands of years after Mosco Burrows' time, so any resemblance must therefore be coincidental. The name Mosco does not in fact appear to have any discernable meaning at all, and probably represents a simple transcription of the original Hobbit-name. Given the usual structure of name-endings among the Hobbits, Mosco Burrows was probably known as Mosca in the Shire itself.
