Lords of the Éothéod and their predecessors

A prince of the Northmen who ruled the lands between Mirkwood and the River Running. He was the ally of Gondor's King Rómendacil II, and received Rómendacil's son Valacar into his court as ambassador. Valacar would eventually wed Vidugavia's own daughter, Vidumavi.

Notes

1

Vidugavia and his fellow Northmen of Rhovanion have names constructed from Gothic elements (where Gothic represents their actual, unrecorded, language). Pronunication in this case of this long-extinct language is especially unclear, so a natural English pronunciation is probably the simplest option.

2

Vidugavia's name is a modernisation of Gothic Widugawja, containing the elements 'wood' and 'lord'. The first element is surely a reference to Mirkwood (which itself derives from mirkiwidu) that lay on the western edges of Vidugavia's realm.
