BWM 1 is the brightest of the four stars that form the heart of M73 in Aquarius. Originally classified as an open cluster, this grouping is now seen as an asterism, a collection of unrelated stars that happen to lie close together as seen from Earth. Based on parallax data, BWM 1 is the most distant of the four prominent stars seen here, but also the most intrinsically luminous, and so it outshines its three appparent companions despite its greater distance.
