Siege of Pelargir

The aftermath of the Battle of the Crossings of Erui

In the year III 1447 the exiled King Eldacar of Gondor returned to his homeland to drive out Castamir the Usurper. At the Battle of the Crossings of Erui, he defeated Castamir's army and slew the Usurper, but Castamir's sons and many of his supporters escaped the battle and fled southwards to Pelargir. Eldacar raised a siege against that ancient port which lasted into the following year. In the end, the siege failed; Castamir's followers assembled a fleet and sailed away to Umbar, which they captured and held against the true King of Gondor, giving rise to the people known as the Corsairs.
