Horse-country

The Orcs’ name for Rohan

Map of the Horse-country

A name used among the Orcs for Rohan, and in fact nearly a direct translation of that name (Rohan comes from Elvish Rochand, 'horse land'). We have only a single attested use of the term (in discussion between the captors of Merry and Pippin) so it is unclear whether this was actually the Orcs' general name for Rohan, or intended as a passing insult. The similarity of meaning to the word Rohan, however, suggests that it was probably the former.
