Hatholdir

A descendant of the House of Hador

A Man of Númenor during the first millennium of that land's history, Hatholdir was descended from the House of Hador. He was a close friend of Meneldur (who later became King Tar-Meneldur), and his son Orchaldor married into the royal family when he wedded Meneldur's daughter Ailinel.

Notes

1

We have no dates for Hatholdir himself; the date of II 712 given here is for his wife Ailinel, so Hatholdir was presumably born near to this date. As a member of the early generations of the Númenóreans, Hatholdir would have lived for several centuries, perhaps to the year II 1000 or even beyond.

2

Hatholdir was a close friend of Meneldur of the royal line, and his son Orchaldor married Meneldur's daughter Ailinel. On that basis, it seems likely that he was associated with the royal city of Armenelos, though given our lack of detailed information, this cannot be stated with certainty.

3

The name Hatholdir comes from hathol ('axe') combined with the masculine agental suffix -dir, so 'axe-man' is a literal translation. Hatholdir's name was perhaps influenced by his ancestor Hathol ('the Axe'), the father of Hador Lórindol.
