The Green

A title of the haven of Eldalondë

Map of Eldalondë the Green

Eldalondë was a haven on the lush western coasts of Númenor, standing at the point where the river Nunduinë flowed into the wide Bay of Eldanna. The western shores of Númenor were bathed by warm western seas, and well watered by rains out of the west. Trees and plants grew in profusion around the port, and so it became known as Eldalondë the Green.

During the earlier history of Númenor, the haven was often visited by the vessels of the Eldar from Tol Eressëa in the West. These Elves brought gifts for the Númenóreans, including trees that had never been seen eastward of Aman. These trees were planted along the shoreline and hills northward and southward of Eldalondë. The entire country around the haven thus became known as Nísimaldar, the Fragrant Trees, among which the green haven of Eldalondë nestled.
