Forgoil

Strawheads

The sole recorded word from the language of the Dunlendings. It was said to mean 'Strawheads', an insulting name for the Rohirrim, referring to the fair colour of their hair. The Dunlendings had nursed a resentment against the Rohirrim since the time Eorl had led the Riders into the lands north of Gondor. At the time of the War of the Ring, more than five centuries after the establishment of Rohan, Saruman was able to stir this resentment up into open warfare. The Dunlendings who took part in that war shouted the insult in their assault on Helm's Deep: 'Death to the Forgoil! Death to the Strawheads!' (The Two Towers III 7, Helm's Deep).
