End of the Wood

After Túrin and Beleg established the Land of Bow and Helm, many others came there to join the Gaurwaith who had formed Túrin's original band. The chief settlement of the land remained Bar-en-Danwedh on the heights of Amon Rûdh, which was given the new name of Echad i Sedryn, the Camp of the Faithful). While the Old Company remained there, the newcomers established fortified camps of their own in the lands around the great hill. One of these was named Methed-en-glad, a name that translates as the 'End of the Wood'.

We have little direct information about the End of the Wood, except that it was known to lie eastward of Amon Rûdh, but close enough that the peak of the hill remained visible. Its name implies that it was within (or at least close to) a forest, so this would probably put it somewhere under the southern eaves of the Forest of Brethil, about thirty miles eastward of the Camp of the Faithful on the Bald Hill.
