Boromir

Warrior heir of Denethor II

The Company of the Ring

Eldest son of Steward Denethor II of Gondor and brother to Faramir, who set out from Rivendell with Company of the Ring. He was slain by Orcs in the woods at the foot of Amon Hen.

At least, in The Etymologies (The History of Middle-earth volume V, The Lost Road and Other Writings III) this is given as the meaning of the name of Boromir of Ladros, and Appendix F of The Lord of the Rings strongly hints that the Gondorian Boromir was named for this hero of the First Age.
