Anarya

The second day of the week

Days of the week

In the Elves' six-day week, Anarya was the second day, after Elenya. It was a day dedicated to the Sun, known to the Elves as Anar. Anarya is the Quenya form of the name, with the Sindarin equivalent being Oranor. The concept of a day of the Sun was retained through all known calendars in Middle-earth, where it eventually came to be known, at least in common use among the Hobbits of the Shire, as simply 'Sunday'.
