NotesTheta Aurigae is a binary system. The primary (to which the name Mahasim formally belongs) is a massive white star, and a variable of the Alpha2 Canum Venaticorum class. It has a much less massive and luminous companion, a dwarf star of the bright yellow F-type spectral classification.

Mahasim is a hot white star which varies in brightness. This variability seems to be related to the physical properties of the star itself, perhaps by variations in its surface, or by rings of matter surrounding the main star.
