One of an apparent triangle of stars that lies slightly to the west of the Andromeda Galaxy in the sky (the other two in this group being Theta and Rho Andromedae). Sigma Andromedae is a pulsating white variable of the Delta Scuti classification, a little more than 140 light years from the Solar System.
