A yellow star, somewhat more massive than the Sun, that falls a little to the west of Orion's Belt. In fact, it is much closer to Earth than even the nearest of Orion's belt-stars. The nearest of those three is Alnitak, more than 730 light years away. By comparison, p Orionis is just 195 light years from the Solar System, approximately a quarter of the distance.
