| An orange star, somewhat more massive than the
Sun, that falls a little to the west of Orion's Belt.
In fact, it is much closer to Earth than even the nearest of
Orion's belt-stars. The nearest
of those three is Alnitak, more than 800
light years away. By comparison, p Orionis is just 172
light years from the
Solar System, less than a quarter of the distance.
