| This highly luminous yellow star lies nearly 1,000 light years from Earth, in
the southern reaches of the constellation Cepheus. This is the prototype of the
Cepheid variables, stars whose brightness changes over a period dictated by their
mass. This useful feature allows their distance to be computed.
