The four hundred and seventy-first year of the First Age

The year of the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, in which Morgoth overcame the armies of the Noldor and their allies, and Elves and Men were robbed of all hope of defeating him. It was also the year that Tuor was born, and that Túrin was sent to Doriath.
