After the accidental death of Saeros at his hands, Tûrin fled the land of Doriath where he had been brought up, and lived for a time among a band of outlaws beyond its western borders. It was Saeros' taunts of Túrin that had led to his death, and therefore Túrin took a new name among the outlaws, Neithan, meaning 'The Wronged'.
