Whin

Another name for gorse, a yellow-flowering plant that grows into dense, thorn covered bushes. By the name 'whin', it was found by the Company of the Ring growing among the ruins of the Dwarf-road that led down from the East-gate of Moria, but as 'gorse' it was known to grow much further afield, at least as far south as Ithilien.
