A name used by the Wild Men of the Drúadan Forest for the city of Minas Tirith, which lay some forty miles to the southeast of their forest home. The name comes from an ancient association of the Dúnedain with extraordinary feats of stone-craft. Though in later generations the skill that created Minas Tirith or Orthanc was lost, the association was preserved in the name of their southern realm, Gondor, which means 'Land of (the people of) stone'.
