The downlands of central Eriador

A range of hills that ran through the central regions of Eriador.

'South' here is relative: the downs ran south of the Great Road through Arnor, but that was the North-kingdom of the Dúnedain. The range shared an approximate latitude with the Gulf of Lhûn and the Gladden Fields, and so to (say) an inhabitant of Gondor, the 'South' Downs actually lay in the far north.
