Ringlord

The holder of the Ruling Ring

A title used to describe any who held the Sauron's One Ring and wielded its power. Though this title most naturally referred to Sauron himself during the time he held the Ring in the later part of the Second Age, it could also be used of any who took up the Ring for their own use. Indeed, after it became clear to Sauron that the One Ring had fallen into the hands of his enemies, his natural assumption was that a new Ringlord would emerge to challenge him. It was this miscalculation (it did not occur to him that the anyone would or could voluntarily destroy the Ring) that ultimately brought about his downfall.
