Remmirath

The Netted Stars

The Netted Stars: an Elvish name for a group of stars, identified with the cluster today called the Pleiades.

Notes

1

Though 'Netted Stars' is the usual translation of the name Remmirath, it is not an absolutely literal rendering. The name contains the elements rem, 'net, mesh', mir 'jewel' and ath, a plural ending indicating a very large number. A more literal interpretation of the name, then, would be something like 'host of netted jewels'.
