In his translation of the Red Book of Westmarch, Tolkien anglicised many hobbit names. 'Ranugad' is an example of this process - it is the real name of the hobbit named Hamfast Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings. Ranugad (often abbreviated to 'Ran') had a very similar meaning to the translated name, Hamfast.
