Old Mill

The mill of Hobbiton

Map of the Old Mill

The mill that stood on the north banks of the Water in Hobbiton, run by Ted Sandyman, but bought and demolished by Lotho Sackville-Baggins.

Notes

1

The earliest possible date for the building of the Old Mill would be the settlement of the Shire in III 1601, which would have made it some 1,400 years old at the end of the Third Age. Despite the 'Old' in its name, such an age hardly seems plausible, and it was probably at most a few centuries old at the close of the Age. Lotho Sackville-Baggins had bought the mill before he moved into Bag End in September III 3018, and demolished it soon afterwards (that is, shortly after Frodo and his companions left the Shire).
