Nessanië

Daughter of Hallatan

Hallatan
Nessanië
Hallacar

The eldest child, and only daughter, of Hallatan of Hyarastorni, who lived in Númenor from the ninth century of the Second Age. She was a distant descendant of Vardamir Nólimon, and thus of Elros Tar-Minyatur himself. Nessanië's younger brother Hallacar became the consort to Queen Tar-Ancalimë, so that Nessanië herself became great aunt to their royal son, who ruled as King Tar-Anárion.

Notes

1

Nessanië's name literally translates as 'young woman'. This meaning may be intended directly, but there was a tradition in her family of taking names that reflected devotion to one or other of the Valar. For example, Nessanië had a grandfather Oromendil ('devoted to the Vala Oromë') and a great-grandfather Aulendil ('devoted to the Vala Aulë'). In this context, then, the name Nessanië seems more likely to suggest devotion to the Vala Nessa, whose name translates as 'young'.
