A nickname given to the otherwise unnamed Master of Lake-town by his people, reflecting his concern for finance and trade. After the destruction of the town by Smaug, its people came close to rebellion, calling for the heroism of Bard the Bowman over old 'Moneybags'. The Master survived that challenge, but his greed was his undoing in the end. When Bard gave him a share of the Smaug's gold to help rebuild Lake-town, he took the money instead and fled into the wilderness, where he starved to death.
